Outer tie rod end for 1957–1964 Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge and Plymouth passenger cars. This replacement outer tie rod end (11/16"-18 right-hand thread) installs on either right- or left-hand steering arms and features a grease port located on the side of the housing for easy lubrication. Designed to restore steering play, maintain alignment, and provide a safe, durable connection between the steering linkage and the wheel spindle. Constructed from heat-treated steel with a corrosion-resistant finish and a PTFE-lined ball joint for smooth operation and long service life.
Features:
- Fits 1957–1964 Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge and Plymouth models (outer tie rod end, 11/16"-18 RH thread).
- Right/left-hand application – installs on either side depending on steering arm orientation.
- 11/16"-18 right-hand threaded stud for direct-fit replacement of original equipment.
- Grease port on the side of the housing for convenient lubrication and extended joint life.
- PTFE-lined ball stud and dust boot reduce wear and keep contaminants out.
- Heat-treated steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish for durability.
- Restoration-grade replacement ideal for classic car steering system refurbishment.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod end.
- Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the tie rod (or count the number of turns) to preserve alignment settings when installing the new part.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and back it off as needed to allow removal of the outer tie rod end.
- Remove the cotter pin (if equipped) and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut on the tie rod end stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end stud from the steering knuckle. Do not use excessive hammering that could damage steering components.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns noted during removal, or until the marked position aligns.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position. Tighten the jam nut to secure the assembly.
- Insert the stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque for your vehicle, and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Attach the grease gun to the grease port and apply grease until the dust boot slightly expands (do not over-grease).
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have the vehicle aligned by a professional after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
