Front upper ball joint (right/left) for 1957–1989 Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth vehicles.   • Penetrating oil
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with a floor jack, and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to ball joint fasteners and studs; allow time to soak if necessary.
  4. Support the lower control arm with a jack or stand. Remove the cotter pin and castellated nut (if present) from the ball joint stud.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator (pickle fork) or appropriate press tool, taking care not to damage the knuckle.
  6. Unbolt the ball joint from the upper control arm (or press it out, depending on your model). Retain any original hardware if reusing.
  7. Install the new ball joint: press or bolt it into the upper control arm per vehicle-specific orientation and specifications.
  8. Reconnect the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer’s torque specification. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle off jack stands, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
  10. Check wheel alignment and adjust as necessary after replacing ball joints to ensure proper tire wear and handling.
