Outer left-hand tie rod end for 1963–1973 Dodge and Jeep vehicles designed to replace worn steering components and restore precise steering response. This heavy-duty tie rod end secures the outer steering linkage to the steering knuckle, maintaining alignment and reducing play. Constructed from heat-treated steel with a corrosion-resistant finish and a sealed ball joint (or grease fitting depending on SKU), it provides long-lasting durability and smooth articulation. Ideal for restoration projects or routine steering system maintenance, this part improves safety, reduces vibration, and delivers reliable performance with straightforward installation.
Features:
- Fits 1963-1973 Dodge and Jeep models — outer left-hand tie rod end
- Heat-treated steel construction for high strength and long life
- Sealed ball joint (or greaseable design) reduces wear and maintains smooth steering
- Corrosion-resistant finish protects against road salt and moisture
- Restores steering precision and reduces play for safer handling
- Direct replacement for OE-style fitment — ideal for restorations and repairs
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Safety first: Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the vehicle with a jack, and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer left tie rod end connecting the steering linkage to the steering knuckle. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners if corroded.
- Mark the position of the tie rod on the threaded shaft or count turns when removing to preserve alignment settings.
- Remove the castle nut or retaining nut from the tie rod end stud. Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod to remove it. Compare the new part to the old one to confirm correct orientation and length.
- Install the new outer left tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod to the same mark or number of turns as removed. Seat the ball joint into the steering knuckle and install the retaining nut. Torque to vehicle specifications.
- If applicable, grease the joint using a grease gun until fresh grease appears at the boot. Install a new cotter pin if the design requires one and bend it to secure.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec. Because minor alignment changes can occur, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry.
