Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands, then remove the front wheel.
- Locate the front inner tie rod end where the steering rack meets the inner tie rod. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and allow to soak if corroded.
- Remove any retaining clips or cotter pins, then loosen and remove the castle nut or retaining nut that secures the inner tie rod to the steering rack.
- Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the inner tie rod from the steering rack or linkage. Be careful not to damage the rack boot.
- Unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack (some designs have a retaining sleeve or clamp—remove as needed). Compare new part to old for correct orientation.
- Lubricate threads and install the new inner tie rod, hand-threading first then tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specification with a torque wrench.
- Reattach any retaining nuts or clips, and reassemble the outer tie rod if removed. Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
- Tighten wheel lug nuts to spec, then perform a professional wheel alignment to ensure proper toe and steering geometry restoration.
