Front inner tie rod end for 1980–1988 American Motors Eagle vehicles. This machined-steel steering component connects the steering rack to the outer tie rod, maintaining proper toe alignment and precise steering response. Designed as a direct replacement for worn or damaged inner tie rod ends, it restores steering stability, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Built for durability and straightforward installation, it’s an essential part of suspension and steering restoration or routine maintenance.
Features:
  • Fitment: 1980-1988 American Motors Eagle (front inner tie rod end, fits right or left hand).
  • Precision-machined steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long life.
  • Connects steering rack to tie rod assembly to secure steering linkage and maintain alignment.
  • Reduces steering play and vibration, improving handling and tire wear.
  • Direct-replacement design for easy swap-in during suspension restoration or repairs.
  • Works for both right-hand and left-hand front inner positions; restores factory steering geometry.
  • Simple installation with common hand tools; compatible with alignment adjustments after fitment.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • floor jack and jack stands
  • wheel chocks
  • lug wrench
  • ratchet and socket set
  • open-end wrenches
  • tie rod puller or pickle fork
  • needle-nose pliers
  • torque wrench
  • penetrating oil
  • grease
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands, then remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the front inner tie rod end where the steering rack meets the inner tie rod. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and allow to soak if corroded.
  4. Remove any retaining clips or cotter pins, then loosen and remove the castle nut or retaining nut that secures the inner tie rod to the steering rack.
  5. Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the inner tie rod from the steering rack or linkage. Be careful not to damage the rack boot.
  6. Unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack (some designs have a retaining sleeve or clamp—remove as needed). Compare new part to old for correct orientation.
  7. Lubricate threads and install the new inner tie rod, hand-threading first then tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specification with a torque wrench.
  8. Reattach any retaining nuts or clips, and reassemble the outer tie rod if removed. Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  9. Tighten wheel lug nuts to spec, then perform a professional wheel alignment to ensure proper toe and steering geometry restoration.
