Inner tie rod end (right/left hand) designed for 1981–1985 Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth passenger cars and light trucks. This critical steering component connects the steering rack to the outer tie rod, maintaining alignment and precise steering control. Built to replace worn or damaged originals, it restores steering responsiveness, reduces play, and helps prevent premature tire wear. Engineered for durability and easy installation, it’s ideal for restoration projects and routine suspension maintenance.
Features:
- Fits 1981–1985 Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth models (inner tie rod end, right and left hand applications).
- High-strength forged steel construction for long-lasting durability.
- Restores precise steering linkage alignment and reduces steering play.
- Sealed ball joint design to protect against dirt and moisture, extending service life.
- Direct-replacement part for restoration or routine suspension repairs; no modification required.
- Designed for easy installation with common hand tools; suitable for DIY mechanics and shops.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes (per side)
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack, and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod at the steering rack and apply penetrating oil to fasteners if corroded.
- Mark the position of the outer tie rod on the shaft with a marker to preserve alignment reference.
- Remove the cotter pin and castle nut (if applicable) from the outer tie rod end, then separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod enough to access the inner tie rod lock nut. Loosen and remove the lock nut.
- Unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack using an inner tie rod tool or appropriate wrench. Remove the old inner tie rod.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the specified engagement depth. Tighten to the vehicle manufacturer's torque specification.
- Reinstall and tighten the inner tie rod lock nut against the inner tie rod (if applicable). Thread the outer tie rod onto the inner tie rod to the previously marked position.
- Reattach the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle, install the castle nut and cotter pin (if required), and torque to spec.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and prevent uneven tire wear.
