This heavy-duty pitman arm is a direct-fit steering component for 1997-1999 Dodge full-size vehicles. It connects the steering box output shaft to the center link, translating driver input into lateral movement of the steering linkage. Designed as a durable replacement for worn or damaged pitman arms, it restores proper steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps maintain safe, predictable handling. Constructed for strength and reliability, it supports restoration and maintenance applications where accurate fitment and long service life are required. Always verify compatibility with your specific model and steering configuration before purchase.
Features:
  • Fitment: 1997-1999 Dodge full-size trucks and SUVs — verify fitment for your exact model and steering configuration.
  • Forged steel construction for high strength and long service life.
  • Restores correct steering geometry and reduces play and vibration.
  • Direct-fit replacement designed to match OEM mounting points and spline counts.
  • Prevents premature wear of connected steering components by maintaining proper alignment.
  • Simple swap to replace worn or damaged pitman arm during steering system maintenance or restoration.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Pitman arm puller
  • Torque wrench
  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Penetrating oil
  • Wheel chocks
  • Shop rags
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Raise front of vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the front wheels if needed for access.
  3. Locate the pitman arm at the output shaft of the steering gearbox and spray penetrating oil on fasteners and the splined shaft interface; allow time to soak.
  4. Remove the nut securing the pitman arm to the sector shaft using appropriate sockets; do not fully remove any cotter pins or retaining clips until noted.
  5. Attach a pitman arm puller to the arm and evenly press the arm off the splined shaft. Use care to avoid damaging the gearbox shaft.
  6. Clean splines on the steering box output shaft and inspect for damage; replace gearbox if splines are excessively worn or damaged.
  7. Position the new pitman arm on the splined shaft aligning the splines to the same orientation as the original arm to maintain steering geometry.
  8. Install the retaining nut and tighten by hand, then torque to the manufacturer's specification using a torque wrench. Install any cotter pin or retaining hardware as required.
  9. Reconnect any linkage or drag link to the pitman arm and torque those fasteners to spec.
  10. Lower the vehicle, center the steering wheel, and test steering operation. Perform an alignment check or professional wheel alignment after installation if suspension or steering geometry was altered.
