Outer tie rod end (right / left hand) designed for 2003–2006 Dodge and Freightliner trucks. This steering linkage component connects the steering rack to the steering knuckle, transmitting steering input while allowing for suspension movement. Built to withstand road stresses, it restores precise steering response and reduces play or vibration in the front end. Ideal for maintenance or restoration projects where reliable handling and safety are priorities, the part offers durable construction and straightforward replacement to get vehicles back on the road with secure, true steering.
Features:
  • Fitment: Direct-fit outer tie rod end for 2003–2006 Dodge and Freightliner models (right and left hand applications).
  • Heavy-duty construction resists wear and maintains alignment under load.
  • Precision ball joint provides smooth steering response and reduced play.
  • Sealed design helps retain grease and keep contaminants out for longer life.
  • Straightforward OE-style replacement for routine maintenance or restoration projects.
  • Improves vehicle safety and handling by eliminating looseness in the steering linkage.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Wrenches and sockets (open-end and ratchet set)
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if applicable)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle and apply penetrating oil to the nut and threaded area if needed.
  4. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castellated or hex nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  5. Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Avoid striking the steering knuckle directly when possible.
  6. Mark or count the number of exposed threads on the tie rod to preserve alignment, then loosen the jam nut and unthread the tie rod end from the inner tie rod.
  7. Install the new outer tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod to the previously noted position. Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end.
  8. Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
  10. Because small alignment variances can occur, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
