Instructions:
- Park on level ground, apply parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands.
- Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod end.
- Locate the outer tie rod end connecting the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod; apply penetrating oil to fasteners if needed.
- Mark the position of the old tie rod on the threaded shaft or count the turns during removal to preserve alignment settings.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod, then remove the castle nut or nut securing the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
- Separate the tie rod end from the knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork; avoid striking the steering knuckle directly if possible.
- Unscrew the old outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns you noted (or to the mark) and remove it.
- Screw the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the original position or marking, then hand-tighten the jam nut to hold it in place.
- Insert the new tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle and secure with the provided nut; torque to manufacturer specifications and install cotter pin if applicable.
- Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end to lock the adjustment.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure correct toe settings and prevent premature tire wear.
