Instructions:
- Park on level ground, set parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a jack, and support with jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer left tie rod end at the steering knuckle and inner tie rod connection. Clean the area to see components clearly.
- Loosen the lock nut on the inner tie rod that secures the outer tie rod end, but do not remove it.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and unbolt the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using the appropriate socket or wrench.
- Use a ball joint separator or tie rod puller to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle without damaging surrounding parts.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod, counting the number of turns or measuring exposed threads to preserve alignment.
- Install the new outer left tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod the same number of turns (or to the same measured position) to approximate alignment.
- Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's specified torque; insert a new cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the inner tie rod lock nut against the new outer tie rod end to secure it.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and to prevent tire wear.
