Front lower right-hand ball joint for 1962–1972 Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth vehicles equipped with drum brakes. This critical suspension component locates the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, enabling smooth steering articulation while supporting vehicle weight and absorbing road forces. Designed as a direct-fit replacement, it restores proper steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Constructed for long service life and reliable performance, it’s ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance.
Features:
- Fits 1962-1972 Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth vehicles with front drum brakes (front lower, right-hand side).
- Direct-fit replacement to restore correct steering geometry and suspension alignment.
- High-strength steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish for durability.
- Secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, reducing play and vibration.
- Easy-to-install design suitable for restoration projects and routine suspension repairs.
- Helps prevent premature tire wear and improves steering response and safety.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side (depending on rust/condition and tools available)
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle and secure on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
- Remove the brake drum and backing plate components as needed to access the steering knuckle.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and studs; disconnect the lower ball joint cotter pin and castle nut if present.
- Separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or hammer/pickle fork; support the lower control arm to prevent sudden drop.
- If bolted or pressed, remove the old ball joint using a ball joint press or appropriate removal tool.
- Install the new ball joint into the lower control arm; press or bolt it in per the part orientation and fitment.
- Reattach the steering knuckle to the new ball joint, torque the castle nut to factory specifications and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the brake drum and wheel; torque the wheel lug nuts to specification, lower the vehicle, then torque lug nuts again.
- Test-drive at low speed to verify steering and suspension operation; have a professional alignment performed if necessary.
