Inner tie rod end (right/left hand) designed for 1965–1989 Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth vehicles. This replacement inner tie rod end features an 11/16"-18 left-hand threaded grease port with a bottom cap, a durable dust boot, and a heavy-duty steel construction to restore steering link integrity. It secures the inner steering linkage to the rack or steering box, helping maintain proper alignment, reduce play, and prevent premature wear. Built for restoration and maintenance projects, it offers reliable, serviceable performance with a greaseable fitting for long-term durability.
Features:
- Fits 1965-1989 Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth passenger cars and light trucks (inner tie rod end, right and left hand).
- 11/16"-18 left-hand grease port with bottom cap for easy lubrication and protection from contaminants.
- Heavy-duty steel construction with corrosion-resistant coating for long service life.
- Serviceable, greaseable design with durable dust boot to help prevent contamination and reduce wear.
- Restoration-grade replacement that restores steering precision and reduces play.
- Sold as an inner tie rod end for use with steering boxes or racks; suitable for rebuilds and maintenance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod end at the steering rack or steering box. Clean the area and apply penetrating oil to fasteners if needed.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle or retaining nut on the outer tie rod end. Separate the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Loosen the jam nut on the outer tie rod and unscrew the outer tie rod to expose the inner tie rod. Mark the position of the outer tie rod relative to the inner to preserve alignment if desired.
- While supporting the steering linkage, remove the retaining nut or clamp that secures the inner tie rod to the rack or steering box and unthread the inner tie rod. Use a wrench on the flats or an appropriate inner tie rod tool as required.
- Compare the new inner tie rod to the old unit to confirm correct thread direction (left or right hand) and length. Install the new inner tie rod, threading it into the rack or steering box and tightening to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
- Reinstall the outer tie rod onto the new inner tie rod to the previously marked position or approximate factory setting. Tighten the jam nut and torque the castle/retaining nut to spec, installing a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Grease the fitting through the 11/16"-18 grease port until the boot seats and fresh grease appears. Replace the grease port bottom cap to keep out dirt and moisture.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec. Perform a wheel alignment as soon as possible after installation to ensure proper steering geometry.
