  • Penetrating oil
  • Hammer
  • Grease (if greaseable) or thread lubricant
  • Measuring tape or alignment ruler
Instructions:
  1. Park on a level surface, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
  3. Inspect and note the number of exposed threads and the relationship between the inner and outer tie rod (mark or measure) to preserve alignment during removal.
  4. Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end nut and let soak if needed.
  5. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut on the tie rod end stud.
  6. Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork; avoid damaging the knuckle.
  7. Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and unthread the outer tie rod end, counting turns or using your measurement to match the replacement position.
  8. Thread the new left-hand tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the recorded position, then tighten the jam nut to secure.
  9. Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, torque the nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification, and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to spec, and perform a professional wheel alignment as soon as possible.
