Outer right-hand tie rod end designed to restore steering precision and safety for 1997–1999 Dodge Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota vehicles. This heavy-duty replacement part secures the steering linkage to the wheel hub, translating steering wheel input into accurate wheel movement while resisting wear from road impact and vibration. Built for durability and reliable performance, it’s an essential component for restoring proper alignment, reducing play in the steering, and preventing uneven tire wear. Easy to install with common hand tools, it’s ideal for repair, maintenance, or restoration projects.
Features:
- Fits 1997–1999 Dodge Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota — outer right-hand tie rod end
- Forged or heat-treated steel construction for strength and long service life
- Secures steering linkage to wheel hub to restore steering precision and reduce play
- Greaseable or sealed ball joint options to resist contamination and reduce maintenance
- Service replacement for worn or damaged OE tie rod ends — helps prevent uneven tire wear
- Straightforward installation for DIY mechanics or professional technicians
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 45–90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to the outer tie rod jam nut and ball stud if needed to ease removal.
- Loosen and remove the cotter pin (if present) and then remove the castle nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid excessive damage to surrounding components.
- Count the turns or measure distance from the jam nut to the end of the tie rod to preserve approximate alignment, then loosen the jam nut and unscrew the old tie rod end.
- Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same number of turns or to match the measured distance. Tighten the jam nut to secure position.
- Insert the new tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle and install the castle nut. Torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- If the part is greaseable, apply grease using a grease gun until the boot seats; if sealed, inspect the boot for damage before installation.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed as soon as possible after replacement to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
