Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to the outer and inner tie rod joints if corroded.
- Loosen the jam nut on the outer tie rod (mark the position or measure the length from a reference point to preserve alignment).
- Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod end puller or pickle fork and remove the cotter pin if present.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod (15mm thread connection) and set the outer assembly aside.
- Support the steering rack or inner tie rod and use a 24mm wrench or dedicated inner tie rod tool to unthread the inner tie rod from the rack (24mm thread at rack end).
- Inspect rack boot and seals; replace the boot if damaged before installing the new inner tie rod.
- Thread the new inner tie rod into the rack to the original depth and torque to manufacturer specifications.
- Reinstall the outer tie rod onto the new inner tie rod, adjust to the original measured length or alignment reference, and tighten the jam nut.
- Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle, install any cotter pins, and torque all fasteners to spec.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
