Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen the wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it on jack stands, then remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle and use a marker to note the threaded position relative to the inner tie rod (count turns or mark the shaft) to preserve alignment.
- Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut (if fitted) and loosen the nut that secures the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle, then fully remove the castle nut and pull the tie rod end free.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns you noted earlier (or match the marks) and remove the old part.
- Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position or alignment mark; hand-tighten and position it into the steering knuckle.
- Install and torque the castle nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification, then install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- If the part has a grease fitting, apply grease as required; wipe away excess.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to spec, and perform a professional wheel alignment as soon as possible to ensure correct toe settings.
