Instructions:
- Carefully remove the old weatherstrip: use a plastic trim tool to pry out the existing seal without damaging the surrounding metal or glass.
- Clean the channel thoroughly: wipe away adhesive residue, dirt and corrosion with isopropyl alcohol and a clean cloth; allow to dry completely.
- Test-fit the new seal: position the replacement weatherstrip along the window channel to verify orientation and fit for the left or right side.
- (Optional) Apply adhesive: if the vehicle design or seal profile requires adhesive, apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the channel per the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
- Install the seal: starting at one end, press the new weatherstrip into the channel, working along the length and ensuring the seal seats evenly. Use a rubber roller or a block of wood and a rubber mallet to press the seal into place without twisting or stretching it.
- Trim excess if necessary: if the seal is longer than required, trim neatly with a utility knife or scissors and seal the cut end with a small amount of adhesive if exposed.
- Allow adhesive to cure: if used, follow the adhesive cure time before operating the window or exposing the area to moisture.
- Final check: operate the window and inspect for consistent contact, leaks or wind noise; make minor adjustments as needed to ensure a tight, uniform seal.
