Front upper ball joint designed for 1972-2003 Dodge, International, and Plymouth 2WD vehicles with heavy-duty suspension. This threaded-housing design ball joint secures the control arm to the steering knuckle, maintains correct suspension geometry, and restores precise steering and suspension articulation. Built for durability and high-load applications, it resists wear and reduces play and vibration for safer, more predictable handling. Sold as a right or left hand unit for direct replacement, it’s ideal for restoring worn suspension components and extending the life of vintage and classic trucks.
Features:
- Fits 1972-2003 Dodge, International, and Plymouth 2WD models with heavy-duty front suspension (front upper, right or left).
- Threaded housing design for secure, OEM-style installation and alignment.
- High-strength construction to withstand heavy loads and reduce premature wear.
- Restores proper steering geometry, reduces vibration and play for safer handling.
- Direct replacement for worn or damaged upper ball joints in restoration and maintenance projects.
- Easy-to-handle unit compatible with common ball-joint service procedures.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1–2 hours per side
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage the parking brake, loosen lug nuts, then raise the front of the vehicle and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners at the control arm and ball joint. Remove any cotter pins and loosen or remove the castle nut securing the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork. Support the steering knuckle so suspension components are not overstressed.
- If the ball joint is pressed in, use a ball joint press to remove the old unit. For threaded housings, unthread and remove the old ball joint from the control arm per vehicle-specific service steps.
- Clean the control arm bore and mating surfaces with a wire brush and remove debris or corrosion. Inspect surrounding components (control arm, seals, knuckle) for wear and replace if necessary.
- Thread or press the new ball joint into the control arm housing until fully seated, following orientation for right or left hand as applicable. Ensure the housing is flush and properly aligned.
- Install the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer’s torque specification, and secure with a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification. Test drive at low speed to confirm proper steering and suspension operation and recheck fastener torque after a short drive.
