- Loosen lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack, and support securely on jack stands.
- Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod assembly.
- Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end threads and castle nut; mark the position of the outer tie rod relative to the inner for reference.
- Loosen and remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle using the appropriate socket and a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the joint.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner to free the inner tie rod; note the number of turns or mark the alignment to preserve toe setting if desired.
- Remove the inner tie rod by loosening the retaining hardware at the steering rack and unscrewing the inner tie rod from the rack spline.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the rack spline to the original engagement depth and tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque.
- Reassemble the outer tie rod onto the new inner tie rod to the marked position (or to factory toe specification), secure the outer stud in the steering knuckle, and torque the nut to spec.
