Front lower ball joint designed for 2000-2001 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks. This direct-fit replacement secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining proper wheel alignment and suspension geometry. Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to the lower ball joint nut and mounting bolts; allow time to soak.
  4. Remove the cotter pin (if equipped) and loosen/remove the castle nut securing the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the knuckle using a ball joint separator, pickle fork, or a press tool. Take care not to damage surrounding components.
  6. Support the lower control arm and remove any retaining bolts or rivets that attach the ball joint to the control arm (some applications use bolts; others are pressed in).
  7. Use a ball joint press to remove the old ball joint from the lower control arm if it is a press-fit design. For bolt-in styles, remove the bolts and lift the ball joint out.
  8. Clean the control arm mounting surface and inspect for wear or damage; replace the control arm if necessary.
  9. Install the new ball joint into the control arm. If press-fit, use the ball joint press to seat it fully. If bolt-in, align and torque the mounting bolts to factory specifications.
  10. Reinsert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, install the nut and torque to the manufacturer’s spec. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque the lug nuts to specification, and perform a test drive to confirm proper handling.
  12. Recommend a professional wheel alignment after installation to ensure correct toe and camber settings.
