Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle with floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the wheel.
- Remove cotter pin and loosen then remove castellated nut from the lower ball joint stud.
- Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle; support the knuckle to avoid stressing the brake lines.
- Remove any retaining bolts or snap rings holding the ball joint to the lower control arm (depending on vehicle subframe design).
- Use a ball joint press (or suitable C-clamp press) to press the old ball joint out of the lower control arm.
- Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or corrosion; apply a thin coat of anti-seize if desired.
- Press the new ball joint into the control arm until fully seated. Install any retaining clips or snap rings if required.
- Reinstall the steering knuckle onto the ball joint stud, tighten the castle nut to manufacturer torque specifications, and insert a new cotter pin.
- Reassemble any removed suspension components, torque all fasteners to spec, reattach the wheel, lower the vehicle, and perform a final torque on the lug nuts.
- If the ball joint is serviceable, apply grease via the grease fitting. After installation, have a professional wheel alignment performed.
