Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen lug nuts, raise vehicle with jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate outer tie rod end and mark the position of the old tie rod on the inner tie rod or measure the exposed threads to preserve alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod, then remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Avoid damaging the boot.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns as measured or until the alignment mark is reached.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position, then tighten the jam nut to specification.
- Insert the new tie rod stud into the knuckle, install the castle nut and torque to the manufacturer's spec, then secure with a new cotter pin.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
