Front lower ball joint designed for use on a wide range of vehicles from 1983–2009 including Dodge, Eagle, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Plymouth, and Volvo. This greaseable, non-knurled lower ball joint secures the steering knuckle to the control arm, maintaining proper wheel alignment and suspension geometry. Built for durability and reliable performance, it resists wear under normal driving conditions and offers easy maintenance via a grease fitting. Ideal for suspension repairs and restorations where a replaceable, serviceable ball joint is required.
Features:
- Fits 1983–2009 Dodge, Eagle, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Plymouth, and Volvo models (front lower, right or left hand).
- Greaseable design with zerk fitting for routine lubrication and extended service life.
- Non-knurled (smooth) shaft style for applications requiring press-fit or retained taper without knurling.
- Constructed from hardened steel with corrosion-resistant finish for long-term durability.
- Restores proper steering and suspension alignment, reduces play and vibration, improves tire wear.
- Direct replacement part for suspension repairs and vehicle restorations; easy to service.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1–2 hours per side (professional shop time may vary)
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, apply parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift vehicle with floor jack and secure on jack stands, then remove wheel.
- Remove any components obstructing access to the lower ball joint (brake caliper and rotor, sway bar link, ABS sensor bracket as needed).
- Support the control arm with a jack or stand. Remove the lower ball joint nut and any cotter pin or retaining clip.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork. Use caution to avoid damaging the knuckle.
- If the ball joint is pressed in, use a hydraulic press or ball joint installation/removal tool to press out the old ball joint. If retained by bolts or clips, remove them per vehicle service manual.
- Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or wear. Prepare the new ball joint by applying light grease to the pilot and seating surfaces if recommended.
- Press the new non-knurled ball joint into the control arm using a press or installation tool until fully seated. If applicable, reinstall retaining clips or bolts.
- Reattach the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle, tighten the nut to the manufacturer's torque specification, and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reconnect any removed components (brake rotor/caliper, sway bar link, ABS brackets), reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Use a grease gun to lubricate the new ball joint through the zerk fitting until fresh grease appears (do not overfill).
- Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper tire wear and steering geometry.
