Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the vehicle with a jack and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod on the steering rack and apply penetrating oil to fasteners if corroded.
- Remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle if necessary to gain access (use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate).
- Loosen and remove the jam nut and the inner tie rod lock nut or retaining fastener at the rack.
- Unscrew and remove the old inner tie rod from the steering rack. Clean the rack threads and inspect for damage.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the same approximate position as the old unit. Tighten to the vehicle manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reattach the outer tie rod end and tighten the jam nut to secure the assembly. Torque all hardware to spec.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure correct toe settings and prevent premature tire wear.
